About Us

At 35 years old, I became a new mom. I had 35 years of experience in this world, and suddenly, all of that experience felt like it was quickly being erased - not completely erased, but like a dust streaked chalkboard after a grade 9 math lesson. 

 

I felt like I was able to learn again, almost with a blank slate, through the eyes and hands of my daughter. Everything she saw and touched was wondrous; she looked puzzled at first but was determined to figure out what she was looking at, and her touch was cautious, but when she felt something new it was purposeful and not shy.

It was (and still is) amazing to watch her as she absorbs all of these new sensations like a sponge. I'm blown away every day by how she studies new things; she is the reason I started Textured Learning.

 

Because she spends 90% of her day sitting, rolling, laying and crawling on the floor, I wanted to keep her exploring and stimulated where she is most comfortable, and with the most natural and safe materials. Our sensory play mats are made with only organic, natural materials - cotton, bamboo, hemp, linen, and wool, and are durable and machine washable.
